Ways to Give

We are grateful that you have considered giving to TJ! There are many different ways that you can support our mission. If you have any questions regarding giving, please contact Liz Lee, Director of Development at 314-635-2242 ext.2342 or development@tjs.org.
At Thomas Jefferson School, we appreciate the financial support that helps us nurture responsible global citizens and provide the strongest possible college-preparatory program. Outlined below are some smart giving options that allow you to support our mission while gaining potential tax benefits.

How can I donate stock to Thomas Jefferson School?
Donating appreciated stock can be a tax-wise giving strategy. When you donate stock to Thomas Jefferson School:
  • You avoid capital gains tax on any paper profit.
  • You receive a charitable tax deduction for the full fair market value of the stock (if owned for more than one year).
  • You support our mission without affecting your cash assets.
To donate stock, please contact our Development Office for transfer instructions.

How can I give through a Donor-Advised Fund (DAF)?
A Donor-Advised Fund (DAF) is a charitable giving program that allows you to combine the most favorable tax benefits with the flexibility to support Thomas Jefferson School over time. Here's how it works:
  1. Establish your DAF by making an irrevocable, tax-deductible donation to a public charity that sponsors a DAF program.
  2. Advise the investment allocation of the donated assets (any investment growth is tax-free).
  3. Recommend grants to Thomas Jefferson School whenever you'd like to make a difference.
To give through your DAF:
  • Provide your DAF sponsor with our name, address, and tax ID number:
Thomas Jefferson School
4100 S. Lindbergh Blvd.
St. Louis, MO 63127
EIN: 43-0618908
  • Consider setting up a recurring gift from your DAF to provide ongoing support.
You may also name Thomas Jefferson School as the beneficiary of the fund during your estate and legacy planning.

Note: Per IRS guidelines, gifts from DAFs cannot be used as payment for membership dues that provide prohibited goods or benefits to a donor; however, if all prohibited goods and benefits are fully waived, payment via a DAF is acceptable.

What is a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD)?

A Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) is a direct transfer of funds from your IRA to Thomas Jefferson School. If you're 70.5 or older, a QCD can satisfy your required minimum distributions (RMDs) without increasing your taxable income.
  • Annual Limit: Up to $105,000 per year
  • Age Requirement: 70.5 or older
  • Eligible IRAs: Traditional, Rollover, Inherited, SEP (inactive plans only), and SIMPLE (inactive plans only)
QCDs can offer significant tax advantages, especially if you don't itemize deductions.

Can I name Thomas Jefferson School as a beneficiary of my retirement account?

Yes, naming Thomas Jefferson School as a beneficiary of your IRA, 401(k), or 403(b) can be an excellent way to support our mission:
  • It's tax-efficient: We don't pay income tax on the donation, allowing your full gift to support our work.
  • It's easy to set up: Contact your plan administrator to update your beneficiary designation.
  • It's flexible: You can designate a specific amount or percentage of your account.
