The Thomas Jefferson School Campus
For local students and their families, TJ’s location on South Lindbergh Boulevard is very convenient. It’s an easy drive from most neighborhoods in the St. Louis metro area. It’s also easy for students from outside the area to get here. We’re right in center of the country, in the heart of the Midwest, readily accessed by road, rail, or air.
Our 21-acre campus is in the quiet, residential suburb of Sunset Hills. Nearby communities include Kirkwood and Webster Groves. We’re close to many shops, services, and restaurants, and within a short drive of numerous cultural, entertainment, and sports venues. The city of St. Louis has a long and rich history. Its diversity is rooted in the native American cultures of the region, as well as in the groups of immigrants that have arrived from all over the globe in the past 250 years. The metropolitan area is a major hub of diverse activity in multiple sectors, including business, industry, medicine and bioscience, the arts, and education. St. Louis is also home to a number of fine colleges and universities.

Campus Buildings and Amenities
Since 1946 TJ has occupied the grounds of what was once a private country estate, built in the 1920’s. The Tudor-style mansion that was formerly the family’s home is today the centerpiece of our school home.
The Charles E. Merrill, Jr. Main Building houses offices, classrooms, library collections, study and conference rooms, and an art gallery. Additions to the building created kitchen and dining facilities on one end, and more classrooms and laboratories on the other end. There are seven dormitory cottages on campus, along with a residential director’s home, a fine-arts studio and classroom, a gymnasium and athletic annex, tennis courts, and a soccer field. The landscaped grounds contain beautiful specimen trees and shrubbery, sweeping lawns, and a native-species rain garden. TJ’s outdoor spaces accommodate all kinds of activities. Whether it’s an advisory meeting, a history discussion, a yoga class, an impromptu snowball fight, a nap in the hammock, a marshmallow roast at the fire pit, or time hanging out with friends at the pavilion, there’s something going on almost all the time!
